Definition & context
Embryonic cardiac activity absent between 6 weeks 0 days and 6 weeks 3 days can be indeterminate. Cardiac activity is expected by transvaginal scan in most embryos by ~6+0–6+3 depending on dating and scan quality, but absence in this narrow window — especially when CRL is below threshold (less than 7 mm) is often inconclusive. Management depends on CRL, technique (TVS preferred), and correlation with clinical/biochemical data. This tool helps interpret findings and suggests appropriate follow-up.

Example: "Single intrauterine embryo with CRL 5.8 mm. Cardiac activity not detected on high-quality transvaginal scan. Given CRL less than 7 mm and gestational age 6w+2d this is indeterminate — recommend repeat transvaginal scan in 7–10 days and correlation with serial quantitative β-hCG."
